YWCA Celebrates all Moms this Mother’s Day

As we approach Mother’s Day this Sunday, YWCA USA celebrates all mothers, from LGBTQ+ parents to adoptive moms, incarcerated mothers, legal guardians, and more. As we continue our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women, we strive to address racial disparities in maternal and other health outcomes for women, and to support the health and safety of all moms across the country. Join us as we lift up and support the following calls to action:

  • #WithoutMom Campaign: YWCA USA is a proud partner of The Rockefeller Foundation’s #WithoutMom social media campaign that sounds the alarm on the high rates of preventable maternal deaths and champions the solutions that can save mothers’ lives. Join us in amplifying this campaign and sharing what you would not have been able to achieve #WithoutMom. Watch the video and use their social media toolkit to share on social media.
  • Black Mamas Bailout: 80% of women in jail are mothers, and many are behind bars with no actual conviction because they can’t afford to pay bail. This week, National Bail Out is bailing out Black mamas and caregivers across 30 U.S. cities to reunite them with their families in time for Mother’s Day. Learn more and support this important work at nationalbailout.org.
  • Protect Maternal Health: Support the MOMS Act! Mother’s Day is this Sunday, but not everyone will be able to celebrate. In the U.S., an estimated 700 women die each year during childbirth or from pregnancy-related complications, and 50,000 nearly die. The vast majority of these deaths and complications could be prevented, but Congress must take action on this crisis. Help protect mothers and pregnant people: learn more about the maternal health crisis in the U.S. and urge your Senator to co-sponsor the Modernizing Obstetric Medicine Standards (MOMS) Act (S.116) today!

United Nations Civil Society Conference

The 68th UN Civil Society Conference will be held August 26-28 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is currently accepting workshop applications that advance this year's theme, “Building Inclusive and Sustainable Cities and Communities." You’ll see from the call for workshop proposals that they are looking for action-oriented workshops that focus on learning and innovation and demonstrate partnerships across a range of issue areas—including women and girls, youth empowerment, and economic development.

We’d love to lift up YWCA programs and expertise at this conference! Please email cbeane@ywca.org by Tuesday, May 14th if you have a program or idea that you’d like to highlight at this conference. Not sure? Learn more about last year’s program and workshops.
