Happy 4th of July weekend!

Listen: “Organize Your Butterflies” Episode 2

Each Thursday, YWCA USA will release an episode of our podcast, “Organize Your Butterflies.” (Yes, we realize this is Wednesday, but with the holiday landing on Thursday we're sending this your way now.) We hope you subscribe and get into a routine of listening and sharing each week.

Our second episode, “Swerving Towards Meaningful,” features two inspiring conversations: one with Valerie Jarrett, former Obama Administration senior advisor and author of “Finding My Voice,” and the other, a spotlight on YWCA Dayton with their CEO Shannon Isom.

In this episode, Jarrett sits down for a delightful conversation with our host, YWCA USA CEO Alejandra Y. Castillo, chronicling her journey and sharing insight from her experiences growing up in Iran, returning to the U.S., and finding her inner voice as a student, a single mother, a lawyer, and an influential player in the West Wing.

During our chat with Isom, she talks about the incredible work, service, and advocacy of the YWCA Dayton, which has played a pivotal role in shaping the Ohio region. Founded in 1870, YWCA Dayton was one of the first 25 YWCAs to open in the country.

Take Action on VAWA

Three months ago, on April 4th, H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019 (VAWA), passed through the House of Representatives with a 263-158 vote. The Senate must take up this critical bill. Take this opportunity to urge your Senators to support full funding of VAWA and to pass a substantially similar bill in the Senate. Contact your Senator TODAY!

Join YWCA USA and the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence in posting one VAWA tweet each week on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. ET, until the end of August. To help you get started, check out these sample tweets and graphics and look up your Senators’ social media handles.”

We’ve recently added a new PowerPoint template from the 2019 National Conference, as well a white pocket folder file to the pocket folder options. We encourage you to download and utilize these resources for your local association needs.
