We hope you’ve had a great week. Here are a few updates and recaps:

Coming soon: YWCA’s Data Map

YWCA is excited to launch our interactive data map next Thursday, July 18th. This new online tool showcases the local, state, and regional impact of over 200 YWCAs across the country. The map highlights key data points for each local association across the entire YWCA network, like program areas, numbers served, and federal funding.

With evidence-based research that is aligned with our mission, we are proud to demonstrate the broad impact of our 160-year history. The tool also includes significant data that is aligned with our mission and policy priorities, such as county and state-level demographic data about income, race, and gender diversity.

Additionally, the map provides an overlay of designated Opportunity Zones throughout the country.

As we strive to engage and educate stakeholders, government officials, new partners and women from various backgrounds, this is our national effort to create a new paradigm about the importance of data in America’s women’s empowerment movement. Make sure to keep an eye on your inbox next Thursday to check it out!

Organize Your Butterflies Episode 3: “When Sisters Come Together, We Are Stronger” featuring Blanche A. Williams

During our third podcast episode, “When Sisters Come Together, We Are Stronger”, we dive into two discussions: the first, with Blanche A. Williams, an author and the creator of the Sisterhood of Greatness, as well as the founder and moderator of the National Black Women’s Town Hall, Inc., and the second, a spotlight on YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region with their CEO, Sylvia Y. Acosta, Ph.D.

In this podcast, Williams talks about the importance of the Sisterhood of Greatness Manifesto, paying it forward, and how meeting Dr. Height and remembering her legacy not only had a lasting impact, but also helped influence this podcast!

During our discussion with Dr. Acosta, we learn about the programs and services offered by YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region, and the strong impact the organization has had in their Texas community. Founded in 1909, the association currently serves over 40,000 people through a wide array of services, including housing programs, job and life skills training.

Listen now, spread the word on social media using #YWCAButterflies, give us a 5-star rating, and write a review on Apple Podcasts.

Funding Opportunity: Specialized Housing and Services for Victims of Human Trafficking

Last week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the Specialized Housing and Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to grants.gov

This opportunity promotes trauma-informed, victim-centered services, including in tribal areas. Organizations awarded funds through this grant are expected to work with other organizations within their Continuum of Care geographic area to train service providers on how to identify victims of human trafficking and connect these victims to appropriate housing.

Please check out this funding opportunity and apply for your YWCA.

Reach out to the Government Relations Manager, Morgan Brand, for more information.

Support VAWA Reauthorization on Social Media

YWCA USA continues to support and fight for the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

Show your support for this vital piece of legislation by posting one #VAWA2019 / #VAWA4All tweet a week on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. ET until the end of August. This is an easy way to:

  1. Keep up the pressure for VAWA, and
  2. Show solidarity with our national partners at the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

Use this toolkit for tweets that can be easily adapted to be more general, and to urge your Senators to stand up for #VAWA4All.
