Spotlight on YWCA Cass Clay:

Celebrating the grand opening of their new supportive residence facility!

YWCA-CEOs-YWCA_Cass_Clay.jpgThis week, YWCA Cass Clay unveiled a new $7.1 million permanent supportive residence named Grace Garden. YWCA Cass Clay CEO Erin Prochnow hosted the special event, attended by collaborative partners, dignitaries, and guests, including YWCA USA CEO Alejandra Y. Castillo.

“The structure is complete. The rebuilding of lives begins. Here, individuals and their families will be empowered to reach a state of stability and live free of fear,” said Prochnow.

Grace Garden is located in West Fargo, ND. The new facility includes 30 apartments that will be fully furnished for the approximate 75 individuals and families who will move in by the end of 2019. In addition to safe, secure housing, YWCA Cass Clay will offer case management and services at the site to support these individuals and families who have experienced violence and homelessness. Residents will have access to nursing care, an employment coach and other mentors to grow life skills. Grace Garden is located close to schools, job opportunities and transportation routes. YWCA’s 29 years of experience in providing supportive housing has proven that these supports are key to success.

Empowering Women’s Civic Leadership: Tell Us What You Think!

Through YWCA USA’s partnership with VoteRunLead, we are growing our footprint in women’s leadership development. We are developing nonpartisan tools and resources to empower women’s civic leadership in all aspects of public life.

Let us know know what tools you need and want!

Please take a few minutes to tell us what you are interested in and how we can best support your YWCA’s next steps in women’s leadership development.

Engaging with YWCA partner Supermajority, a newly-launched grassroots network of women organizing for gender equity, is another great way to make sure your voice is heard. Supermajority’s national online survey is designed to hear from women from all walks of life about the issues that matter most to them. The input from tens of thousands of women across the country will help inform their grassroots-driven blueprint for change. First, please take 10 minutes to complete the Supermajority survey. Second, please share the survey link with women in your YWCA and in your community.

Black Women’s Equal Pay Day

How would you like to work an extra eight months to earn the same as your non-Hispanic White male counterparts? For Black women in America, that is the reality. According to the U.S. Census data, Black women were typically paid 61 cents for every dollar paid to White men in 2017. That’s even worse than the national earnings ratio for all women, who earn an average of 80% when compared to their male counterparts.

Join us on Thursday, August 22 from 2-3 p.m. ET on social media using the hashtag #BlackWomensEqualPay or #PaycheckFairness to call out this injustice and urge the Senate to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act today
