YWomenVote 2020 Road Show
To ensure that women’s voices and priorities are heard in the 2020 election, YWCA is launching a national road show, beginning in New Hampshire on January 29th, to provide a platform for women to voice their concerns to the nation’s leaders and encourage them to take action on issues that directly impact them.
The New Hampshire event will include a diverse panel of speakers who will lead a robust discussion on economic and workplace fairness issues such as paid family and medical leave and other survey findings. As part of our largest civic engagement initiative, we will work to reach 10 million women through issue education, advocacy, and voter registration. Learn more about the importance of checking your voter registration in this Bustle article featuring Alejandra Y. Castillo.
Check out our new blog post about the road show and visit YWomenVote.org for the full list of road show stops. |

Women’s March 2020
YWCA USA was proud to partner with Women’s March to support a thriving women’s movement. Thank you to all the YWCA leaders, staff, and volunteers who participated in Women’s Marches around the country on Saturday, January 18th.
We would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of YWCA local associations that supported the Women’s March in their own communities, such as YWCA Kalamazoo for hosting the 2020 Women’s March in Kalamazoo, Michigan and YWCA Mohawk Valley, which held the Utica Women’s March at YWCA Mohawk Valley’s administrative office.
We are truly inspired by all of the women who joined in on the movement to help keep our collective commitment to justice in our communities strong. |

Support Paid Leave: FAMILY Act Hearing Next Week
On January 28th, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means will host a hearing on legislative proposals for paid family and medical leave, including the FAMILY Act (H.R.1185). Most notably, this bill would:
- Provide workers with up to 12 weeks of partial income when they take time for their own health conditions (including pregnancy and childbirth recovery) or that of a child or immediate family member; the birth or adoption of a child; and/or for particular military care-giving and leave purposes.
- Cover workers in all companies, no matter their size, and ensure every individual has access to paid leave time.
- Be funded by small employee and employer payroll contributions of two-tenths of one percent each, or about $2.00 per week for the average worker, and administered by a new Office of Paid Family and Medical Leave within the Social Security Administration.
Join YWCA USA in supporting paid leave by telling your Member of Congress to cosponsor and pass the FAMILY Act (H.R. 1185) now!

Strategic Business Plan Implementation Update
YWCA USA has developed a series of implementation teams to further refine the Strategic Business Plan in advance of our formal launch. Over the coming weeks, we will share updates from each of the implementation teams (Healthy Associations, Cross-Network Learning, Outcome Measures) to give insight into our process to develop the best tools possible for each of our local associations.
The Healthy Associations Team, represented by USA staff and local association leaders, has spent the last few months defining the profile of a healthy YWCA association and how YWCA USA can best support one. We have focused our work on streamlining data collection, creating a system for responding to real-time data, and increasing network engagement. In the end, associations will benefit from targeted financial sustainability and governance services, meaningful data reports, and pathways for growth. |
