The most recent presentation about our implementation efforts happened two weeks ago at the San Diego Network Meeting and will happen again at the Charlotte Network Meeting. As your partners, staff members, and constituents discuss the COVID-19 outbreak, this page may help answer some questions regarding children. There are also recommended strategies for employers to use now for preventing workplace exposures and risks.

2020 Leadership & Capacity Building Institute – Registration is Now Open!

Early Bird registration for the 2020 Leadership & Capacity Building Institute (LCBI) is now open! Register now and take advantage of the early bird rate of $150, until Friday, March 20, 2020. The standard registration rate after March 20 is $200.

At Leadership & Capacity Building Institute (LCBI), over 400 YWCA CEOs, Board members and local association staff members will gather for a three-day conference filled with interactive plenary sessions, workshops, and network meetings. LCBI is an opportunity to strengthen and enhance the capacity of our all of our YWCA associations.

You can register now by going to www.ywca.org/lcbi2020 and clicking on the “Register Now” button. Once you are on that page, please set your “Registration Type” to “Attendee”. Additionally, you can now book your hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency.

31 Days of Women's Impact and Women's History Month

On March 1st, we launched our 31 Days of Women’s Impact initiative, highlighting the achievements of women past and present in a wide range of industries and how we’re continuing the work of empowering girls and women of today and tomorrow.

ICYMI we recently shared our list of most inspiring reads featuring our favorite books - from acclaimed and classic works of fiction to memoirs - by women writers. Over the weekend, look out for our #31DaysOfWomensImpact playlist as we set the vibe and continue to celebrate 31 days of women’s impact this month.

Continue to follow along on social media and engage with us as we celebrate women in law, finance, sports, and more, as we work to empower women and girls in communities across the country. #WomensHistoryMonth

We are also still encouraging donations specifically to local associations by donating $1 per day for the entire month of March for a total of $31. Individuals will still be encouraged to make a contribution of any amount to help us continue to serve over two million women, girls, and their families.

We’re Implementing the Strategic Business Plan!

You’ve heard all about the Strategic Business Plan for the past few months, and now we are working to make it a reality. The most recent presentation about our implementation efforts happened two weeks ago at the San Diego Network Meeting and will happen again at the Charlotte Network Meeting. We invite everyone - staff and Board members – to join the Strategic Business Plan Intranet community by clicking HERE. By clicking on the ‘Library’ tab in the Strategic Business Plan community, you will be able to view the:

Approved Strategic Business Plan and Appendices

  • Strategic Business Plan Implementation presentation from the San Diego Network meeting
  • Initial draft of the Strategic Intent that was discussed during the San Diego meeting

Also, please mark your calendars to attend a 1-hour conference call to ask questions, raise concerns, or propose ideas about the Strategic Business Plan Implementation. More information, including an RSVP link, call agenda, and dial-in number will follow.

Want to Potentially Receive $20,000 for Your Local Association?

Then join us on Thursday, March 12th at 3 pm EDT to learn more about available funding by RSVPing HERE. This funding is part of Google’s workforce development grant to help boost the capacity of our local Associations. To be considered for a Google workforce development grant, we encourage you to send a member of your team to attend a 45-minute phone call. During the call, we will discuss:

Program requirements
  • Criteria for success
  • Support from YWCA USA and technical assistance providers (YWCA Madison and YWCA McLean, respectively)
  • Application procedure
  • Selection timeline
  • Question and Answer

Potential Grant Opportunity for Local Associations with Mentoring Programs!

Thanks to Monica Gray, CEO of YWCA National Capital, for bringing a federal grant opportunity to our attention! YWCA USA is exploring the possibility of applying for a $2 -$4 million dollar mentoring grant administered by the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Programs (OJJDP).

If you would like to be considered for this grant, please reach out to June Jimenez, Vice President of Social Innovation, Impact and Investment with information about your local Association’s mentorship program and how it can fit into the grant requirements no later than Thursday, March 12th.

Soccer for Success Program Opportunity – We’re Looking for 10 Local Associations!

Soccer for Success, a program of the U.S. Soccer Foundation is looking to partner with up to 10 local associations to host their evidence-based program for children under the grade 8 for 3 days a week for 10-12 weeks this Fall. 

Capacity building dollars, technical assistance, and equipment purchase is available to local Associations who choose to take on this program. You do not need to have a soccer field or outdoor play space to implement this program; many sites have implemented this program in an all-purpose room or other indoor space.

Register for Stand Against Racism

Have you registered for Stand Against Racism? We are seeking 100% participation in this year's campaign. Your initiative can be any size and take place anywhere from a local school or community center to a coffee shop.

To date, 20 associations have registered to Stand Against Racism with events such as Stand Against Racism Community Rally at YWCA Seattle|King|Snohomish; Race to End Racism - YWCA Charleston; and a Stand Against Racism Network Lunch - YWCA Northeast Kansas.

Register for the Next Association Network Meeting

Association Network Meetings are held to to bring us together in person to discuss current initiatives, to share and support each other, and to connect on ways we can all work together to strengthen our entire network as we work to implement YWCA USA’s Strategic Business Plan and increase synergy. 

2020 is an important year for YWCA and participation in an Association Network Meeting allows us a moment to pause and set our intentions. Now is the time to register for the next Association Network Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 1 - 2, 2020.

DOJ Grant to Address Child Trauma

The Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has released a new FY 2020 funding solicitation for Strategies to Support Children Exposed to Violence for $1 million over three years with an option to recompete. OJP will give priority consideration in three priority areas:

  • Addressing the challenges of rural communities
  • Benefiting individuals who reside in high-poverty areas or persistent-poverty counties
  • Offering enhancements to public safety in Qualified Opportunity Zones

Financial Sustainability Cohort Meets in Chicago

The 2020 Financial Sustainability Cohort kicked off their work this week in Chicago. 20 local associations gathered to participate in an intensive financial leadership program led by Steve Zimmerman from Spectrum Nonprofit Consulting.

The 5-month series of in-person sessions, webinars, and 1:1 coaching are designed to build the financial skills necessary for organizational sustainability. This week, participants focused on internal controls, true costs, and understanding financial statements. The cohort will conclude with matrix mapping at the 2020 Leadership and Capacity Building Institute.

Atlantic Council - Millennium Fellowship Accepting Applications

There are only a few weeks left to apply for the 2020 Atlantic Council Millennium Fellowship. The Millennium Fellowship is the Atlantic Council’s flagship initiative for future leaders. The fellowship is a two-year, part-time program requiring three weeks of in-person activities supplemented with virtual convenings and distance learning, executive coaching, and optional events that take place around the world and throughout the year. 

The fellowship is open to young leaders (ages 25-35) from every country and all sectors. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2020. For more details, visit millenniumfellowship.org.

This week, Paula Penebaker, former CEO of YWCA Southeast Wisconsin, joined the Milwaukee 2020 DNC Host Committee as chief operating officer, responsible for administering operations of the Host Committee and managing committee staff.
