DEADLINE MAY 31: RFP to Apply for Support for YWomenVote/GOTV

This year, voters will decide thousands of contests - from the President and Congress to state legislatures (there are 5,793 – that’s 78% – of state legislative seats are up for grabs!) and school boards to ballots to codify abortion protections in state legislatures.
To help support your Get Out the Vote (GOTV) work this year, YWCA USA is making two grant tracks available to associations.

Next steps:

  • To be eligible for these opportunities, please make sure your association is registeredfor GOTV by midnight on May 31, 2024 (if you have registered already, thank you!).
  • Review and submit this RFP no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31.
  • Awards will be announced on June 14. You can select from two tracks this year:
  • General GOTV Fund: Up to $5,000 to support the GOTV activity of your choice.
  • YWomenVote Community Watch Party Fund: Up to $7,500 to support community watch party events centered on an upcoming YWomenVote Town Hall, September 7, 2024. This town hall will provide a nonpartisan, multi-racial, and multi-cultural forum for Gen Z women to share their perspectives on the issues and priorities they find most salient heading into to the 2024 election.

Reach out to Christine Sloane with questions or for additional support.

Annual Business Meeting Town Hall

Thank you for taking the time to join last week’s virtual town hall in preparation for the 2024 Annual Business Meeting. Annual meetings are an opportunity for YWCA association staff, volunteers, and stakeholders—at all levels—to receive updates from the Board of Directors and CEO on our financial health, membership initiatives, and global YWCA relations.

The town hall, facilitated by YWCA USA Board Secretary Ashlee Davis, covered:

  • Bylaws Amendments
  • Procedural Changes
  • Voting Platform

Your experience is important to us – let us know your feedback on this town hall event by responding to a quick evaluation survey. If you were not able to attend, a full recording of the town hall is now available.

As a reminder, here are the upcoming key dates related to the Annual Business Meeting:

  • Friday, May 31, 2024: Requested deadline to submit bylaws amendment in writing to the YWCA USA Board Secretary by 8 p.m. ET
  • Friday, May 31, 2024: Deadline to register Local Association voting delegates by 11:59 PM ET
  • Saturday, June 15, 2024: 2024 YWCA USA Annual Business Meeting in Atlanta, GA, or virtual attendance – register for Zoom Meeting

2024 Pride Month Toolkit Now Available

The toolkit of 2024 Pride Month materials is now available to the network. We're continuing to uplift topics from the 2024 YWCA Racial Justice Challenge, and this month, we're highlighting LGBT+ women who have advanced equity in bodily autonomy, financial empowerment, caregiving, and transportation. We encourage you to modify the provided materials to fit your association's unique voice and community, and to use the provided graphic templates to highlight other women you would like to celebrate throughout the month.  Please submit your event by Friday, June 7. You can access the material here

UnCharitable Documentary Fundraising Opportunity

You may recall that YWCA Metropolitan Chicago was featured in the groundbreaking documentary UnCharitable (based on the book of the same name by Dan Pallotta) that examines the often-misguided focus on nonprofit "overhead" to the detriment of innovation. In the film, former YWCA Metropolitan CEO Dorri McWhorter talks about the challenges of human service work and the importance of unrestricted resources to experiment with new solutions. As part of that discussion, she highlights the Impact Shares YWCA Women's Empowerment Exchange Traded Fund (NYSE: WOMN) and YWCA's partnership with Impact Shares.

Beginning June 1, the UnCharitable Team is offering non-profits the free opportunity to create a custom link to send to community members and donors ahead of the wider release of the film on June 15th. When someone uses the link to rent the film, the partnering non-profit will receive a portion of the $5 rental fee (and they are able to add any donations they like). You can learn more about the opportunity here

Registration is now open for our next Finance Leader Community of Practice!

Share and learn from your peers on financial issues you face every day. Facilitated by Spectrum Nonprofit Services, past conversations have included ideas around accounting staff size, cash flow management and board and staff understanding of finances. Our recent sessions have been called "A bit of respite in chaotic times."

Empowerment through Enterprise Informational Sessions

Is your association looking to diversify revenue sources to increase your community impact?

Has your association considered launching or growing a venture designed to boost revenue?

YES?

YWCA USA’s Programs, Member Services, and Corporate Foundations Relations Teams are excited to invite local associations to learn more about an exciting new revenue development opportunity coming to the network this fall: Empowerment through Enterprise: elevating mission impact through earned income and social enterprise. Let’s explore earned income as a strategy to create diverse, unrestricted funding streams!

Join YWCA USA at an info session hosted in collaboration with No Margin No Mission (NMNM) and YWCA Hartford Region, where they will preview a series of four learning labs to be offered this fall. NMNM presented at last year’s YWCA National Conference to a packed room with lots of interest, and YWCA USA is excited to bring this opportunity to the network to learn about diversifying income through revenue generating strategies and business practices. Click the links below to register for one of two upcoming info sessions to learn more and get your questions answered:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

For questions, please reach out to YWCA USA Programs
