DATE: February 19, 2015
SUBJECT: Stand Against Racism Is Now Open!
Dear YWCA Leaders,
We are very excited to announce that registration for Stand Against Racism is now open! And we are even more excited to inform you that as a value added service, registration will be at no cost to YWCA local associations (previously $975.00).
Founded in 2007 as a collaboration between YWCA Trenton and YWCA Princeton, Stand Against Racism is now a signature campaign of YWCA USA and a very important part of our larger national strategy to fulfill one of the major tenets of our mission: Eliminating Racism.
This year, we have expanded the event dates to Thursday April 23rd through Sunday April 26th, 2015 and we encourage you to take a Stand at any point during this timeframe. Additionally, for the first time, Stand Against Racism will include an annual theme, ending racial profiling. On Thursday April 23rd, YWCA USA will host a National Day of Action to end racial profiling. As a part of the National Day of Action, YWCA USA will hold a briefing on Capitol Hill and meet with key legislators. We strongly encourage local associations to participate in this effort by talking with representatives at the national, state, and local level about racial profiling. The comprehensive toolkit provided to all registrants will include special background materials on racial profiling to enhance your work in this area.
We are proud to carry on the legacy of Stand Against Racism in the YWCA and have worked to refresh and update all of the materials that local associations have accessed for past Stands. Here is what you can expect from Stand Against Racism this year:
- Free registration for YWCAs;
- A refreshed www.StandAgainstRacism.org that will serve as a hub for all Stand Against Racism materials and information;
- Registration for all other groups will include a suggested donation of $15 or more;
- Registrants are no longer restricted based on zip code;
- A special webinar on March 19, 2015 at 3 PM Eastern
- A National Pledge Against Racism will be available for online signatures;
