SUBJECT: Our Mission on Forbes.com

Dear YWCA Leaders,

We are so excited about the Forbes.com interview with Dara that went live this morning. As she said in the interview, “By better explaining our work, we can make it clear that YWCA is the right partner to give back and create change.” We know from some of you that this is already the case! As we continue to strengthen our message and clarify our work, we hope that every YWCA sees in an increase in advocacy and program engagement as well as in fund development.

We also had a successful #OnAMission Twitterstorm yesterday that trended in Washington, DC. Don’t forget to check out the activity on the hashtag and continue using it as you promote your work. Get your partners on board too! We had great participation from national partners such as the National Partnership for Women and Families, the National Coalition to End Domestic Violence, and Women of Distinction honorees Linda Sarsour (2015) and Jaspen Boothe (2014).

And – as we define our work for the public – we hope these talking points on the difference between YWCA and The Y are helpful for you. While these are broad talking points that you can use as makes sense, remember that the goal of any media interview or dialogue is to highlight your YWCA work rather than to compare and contrast what we do with The Y. For example, in a media interview, you may consider pivoting the conversation back to YWCA by saying something like, “Yes, we know that The Y is also running a campaign right now. They run excellent community programs. Here at YWCA, we….”

Keep up the great work and keep your questions coming to communications@ywca.org.

Sincerely,

YWCA USA Communications
