DATE: February 4, 2016
SUBJECT: On A Mission for Girls of Color
Dear YWCA Leaders,
Registration is now open for Stand Against Racism 2016! Be sure to check out the new and improved website and all of the tools available for this year’s event, which will run from Thursday, April 28, through Sunday, May 1.
Our theme this year is On A Mission for Girls of Color! Too often girls of color are left out of conversations about racial justice and gender equity. Public dialogue suggests that girls of color are “doing just fine” when compared with boys of color — but when we pay closer attention, we discover that girls of color are being disproportionately impacted by racism in ways that are unique to them.
Upcoming Dates
To kick things off, we will host a special Stand Against Racism orientation webinar on Thursday, February 11, at 2 p.m. ET. We also encourage everyone to mark your calendars for Thursday, April 28, our National Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism, when YWCA USA will host an issue briefing in Washington, DC. On this day, we ask our members and partners around the nation to engage local and state public policy makers on racial justice issues and encourage them to join us on our mission to eliminate racism. Stay tuned for more details.
Digital Toolkit
Your digital toolkit contains instructional and promotional items that can be downloaded and printed on your own equipment or at a local print shop. Stand Against Racism buttons, wristbands, and t-shirts are also available for purchase through the online store. Orders placed on or before April 11 are guaranteed delivery by April 28; orders placed after that time may not be available by April 28. For questions concerning merchandise in the online store, please contact our vendor Tom Rice at trice@regalawards.com.
