SUBJECT: TAKE ACTION: Justice for Girls
Dear YWCA Leaders,
Today is the YWCA National Day of Action! Take action today for girls of color by signing your YWCA's name to this important letter urging the co-chairs of the Senate and House appropriations committees to fully fund the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants found in Title IV Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). While there are a number of letters circulating regarding ESSA, ours is unique in that it highlights the needs and concerns of girls of color, and discusses how this funding could be utilized to support their academic achievement.
As you know, Stand Against Racism is officially underway and this campaign is centered on raising awareness about the impact of structural and institutional racism on girls of color. The effects on girls of color are strikingly insidious and often ignored. You can read more about the challenges girls face in our backgrounders: Injustice and the Justice System and Inequality at School. Our collective voice on this important issue can make a difference for girls across the country. Take action today. We must invest in girls' futures. Sign the letter by Thursday, May 5.
Sincerely,
YWCA USA Advocacy
