SUBJECT: Advocacy Day 2016 – Success!

Dear YWCA Leaders,

Give yourselves a round of applause! Our inaugural in-district Advocacy Day was a huge success! Together, 100 YWCAs reached 60 Senators and 84 Representatives across 40 states. On social media we saw 340 Tweets and 190 Facebook posts! Moreover, these were engaging posts that used #YWCAday, sharegraphics, and photos as well as Member’s Twitter handles. Check out a snapshot of the day at YWCAblog.com. Great work!

But as every great YWCA advocate knows, the work doesn’t end this week. Here are some ways to keep the momentum going after Advocacy Day:

  1. Sign our letter to Congress urging them to prioritize the Healthy Families Act, the FAMILY Act, and the SAFE Act. We want any and every YWCA to sign, not only those who were able to participate in Advocacy Day.
  2. Send a thank you note to the Members you met with as well as any relevant follow-up information.
  3. Don’t forget to fill out your feedback forms. If you can’t find your personalized link, email advocacy@ywca.org.
  4. Continue sharing great Advocacy Day content on social media and your association’s website. Here are some examples of what you can include:
    1. Recap blog
    2. Press release
    3. Action center page
    4. Photos from your visit
    5. On-going articles, information, and graphics about these important issues.
  5. Submit a blog for YWCAblog.com about your experience on Advocacy Day or why these pieces of legislation are so important to your community members.

Congratulations on this tremendous effort and thank you for your daily work to move our mission forward.

Sincerely,

YWCA Public Policy & Advocacy
