SUBJECT: 2016 Election Analysis

Dear YWCA Leaders,

As promised yesterday, this email includes an analysis of the 2016 election.

This election cycle has shone a blinding light on divisions in our country over issues of social justice that matter to YWCA such as immigration reform, LGBTQ rights, and equal protection under the law.

Be assured that as issues of racism and sexism continue to be thrust into the mainstream dialogue, we will speak out and take any opportunity for action that may arise. We will work within our communities and on the national stage to promote equal justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

We are at a moment of tremendous uncertainty about the concrete policy proposals that will be advanced by the new administration and what these policies will mean in practical terms for our communities and the clients we serve. We will be vigilant in monitoring these developments, and will be aggressive, strategic and bold in pushing our mission impact platforms and our public policy and advocacy priorities. If you have not already done so, please also take a few minutes to complete the 2016 Legislative Priorities Survey, as your input will be critical to our effectiveness in meeting this challenge.

If you have any questions about this election analysis, please contact Catherine Beane, Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy, at advocacy@ywca.org.

Sincerely,

YWCA USA Public Policy & Advocacy
