Oppose Rep. Price for HHS

Dear Advocates,

President-Elect Trump has nominated Representative Tom Price (R-GA-6) to be Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. But Representative Price's voting record on the Affordable Care Act, access to reproductive healthcare, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) tells us he is not a leader who will champion the concerns of women and families.

CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY, especially the members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) and Finance committees, and urge them to vote NO on Representative Price's nomination.

PLEASE ACT NOW: The HELP Committee confirmation hearing begins on Wednesday, January 18 and the Finance Committee is expected to follow as soon as the next day.

Step 1: Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Senator's office, or find your Senator's direct line here.

Step 2: Tell your Senator:

  • My name is [your name] and I am calling from [your city/state and, if applicable, your organization. Be sure to say you are a constituent!].
  • I urge you to oppose Representative Price's confirmation as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Representative Price's record demonstrates a grave lack of support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault: he opposed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 and has questioned the protections it provides for LGBTQ individuals.
  • His record also demonstrates that he opposes health programs that benefit women. He has been a staunch opponent to women's reproductive rights and has repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

[Add additional concerns you may have.]

Representative Price's record tells us he will not champion the concerns of women and families. Vote NO on his nomination to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Step 3: Share this action alert with your networks, allies, and constituents.

Step 4: Let us know you've acted by emailing advocacy@ywca.org.

Step 5: Share your concerns on social media, using #PriceisWrong.

Tweet directly at your Senators! Fewer than 50 tweets from constituents can make a difference - your voice counts.

Sample Facebook Post:

I do not support Representative Price's confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services. He opposed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013; he has promoted policies that prohibit women's access to reproductive health; he wants to privatize Medicare and make drastic cuts to Medicaid; and he has repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Confirmation of Representative Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services would be harmful to women's health. Join me in calling our Senators today to let them know that Representative Price is WRONG for HHS.

Sample Tweets:

  • [Senator's Twitter Handle] Rep. Price opposed #VAWA 2013. Survivors can't count on Price to support the health programs they need. #PriceisWrong
  • [Senator's Twitter Handle] Rep. Price opposed #VAWA in 2013; we can't count on him to protect survivors as Secretary of HHS. #PriceisWrong
  • [Senator's Twitter Handle] Rep. Price supports repeal of the ACA, which could take away health insurance from over 30 million people. #PriceisWrong
  • [Senator's Twitter Handle] Rep. Price supports cuts to Medicaid which will hurt women, children, and low income families. #PriceisWrong

Thank you for taking action!
