Weekly Wrap-up is on a Mission

March 31, 2017

National Conference News

  • Early bird registration for the 2017 National Conference ends on Tuesday, April 4. Don't miss out on this reduced rate, register now!
  • Begin planning your conference travel by reviewing the preliminary conference agenda. From pre-conference sessions on Wednesday through Saturday's business meeting, we have a full and engaging agenda planned for all who attend!

Development and Fundraising News

  • Join us in highlighting YWCA USA's selection as Nordstrom's nonprofit partner for Treasure&Bond. The funds received will finance a much-needed update to our TechGYRLS curriculum. This refreshed curriculum will be available to all local associations. Please help share our appreciation by sharing this graphic on your website, at events, and in marketing materials, when possible and appropriate.

There are just four weeks left until Stand Against Racism!

Registration is free for YWCAs and your partners. This campaign is a perfect opportunity to show YWCA's incredible reach across the country. In prior years, you have held and engaged over 750 events across almost every state! This year, let's surpass that number. Our communities, our businesses, our government, and our nation need the visible leadership of women of color. On the 10th anniversary of Stand Against Racism, let's pave the way for more women of color leaders in every sector.

Here are your Stand Against Racism next steps

  1. Register! Even if you are still planning your event, you can register for Stand Against Racism and get your partners signed up as well.
  2. Attend our orientation webinar. This Monday, April 3, at 3 p.m. ET, we will hold an informational webinar to walk you through this year's theme, toolkit, and public policy priorities. Register in advance to receive the call-in information.
  3. Take the Stand Against Racism pledge and invite everyone you know to take it as well!
  4. Promote your Stand Against Racism on social media, with your local press, and with the fillable poster in your toolkit.
  5. Take action! Check out the new advocacy tools in your digital toolkit and start putting them to use.

Public Policy & Advocacy

  • Read the latest biweekly policy update.
  • Did you know that it only takes a few targeted tweets to catch the attention of your Members of Congress? Use this sample social media toolkit to build messaging around each of our public policy priorities.
  • Learn more about immigrant rights and sanctuary cities on a special YWCA USA webinar on April 13 at 3 p.m. ET. Register for Supporting Immigrant Communities: Protecting Families and Sanctuary Cities today!
  • Congress will be on recess from April 7 to April 23. Engage your Members of Congress during this time using this recess plan!
  • On March 29, YWCA USA held a congressional briefing on "How Congress Can Create Opportunities for Girls to Thrive and Learn," in conjunction with Girl Scouts and Girls Inc. View our live Twitter coverage of the event using #ChampionGirls.

Member Services Update

Beginning April 10, directors of member services (DMS) will begin providing YWCA onboarding for new board chairs. This orientation process will include a welcome letter plus at least one phone call. Your DMS will contact your board chair during their first month in office. On Monday, April 3, you will receive an email from the central server to update your board information. Please follow the instructions in the email to get started. Your DMS will reach out when a call has been scheduled with your incoming board chair. Please be in touch with your DMS if you have any questions.
