Please see the following YWCA USA updates:

Charlottesville

We know that many of you, like us, are continuing to respond to the violence and display of white supremacy that we saw over the weekend in Charlottesville, VA. We hope you found the memo we released Monday to be helpful. We also released a statement Tuesday in response to the president's comments equating white supremacists with racial justice advocates. We thank YWCA Canada, who released a wonderful statement of solidarity, as well as the many YWCAs who released similar statements. We hope that you will keep us apprised of how and if white supremacist demonstrations or counter protests are developing in your communities.

Charnesia Corley Statement

We released a joint statement with YWCA Houston this morning calling for justice for Charnesia Corley, who was sexually assaulted by police during a traffic stop.

March for Racial Justice Update (Yom Kippur)

There have been some concerns expressed by the Jewish community about the March for Racial Justice being scheduled during Yom Kippur. The organizers have addressed these concerns in this statement. We acknowledge that this may be an ongoing point of tension for the march. Organizers are working to identify solidarity actions for members of the Jewish community and other communities who may not be able to participate. YWCA USA staff remain involved and hope to move this march forward in an inclusive way and that those most impacted, particularly women and girls of color, are centered in this effort.

Congressional Recess

August recess is in full swing! There's still time to connect with your legislators to discuss the issues most important to your community. Read the August/September Recess Plan for additional guidance.
