Weekly Wrap-up is on a mission

December 8, 2017

We are pleased the share the following YWCA USA updates:

United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

The sixty-second session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW62) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City from March 11 to 23, 2018. Given YWCA USA’s consultative status at the United Nations, YWCA USA will again provide stipends and send a delegation to UNCSW. If you are interested in applying to attend as a YWCA USA delegate, please submit an application by Friday, January 5, 2018. Detailed instructions are included in the application. Contact Kelli Shewmaker with any questions. Learn more about the UNCSW and YWCA USA’s global work.

Act Now: Domestic Violence and Firearms

The House just passed a bill (H.R. 38) that would make it even easier for abusers to carry concealed firearms across state lines – further increasing danger for victims of intimate partner violence. We already know that when abusers have access to guns, the likelihood that they will kill their victim increases 500%. Write your Senators today and tell them to vote NO on H.R. 38, the House-passed Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and to support separate improvements to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System immediately!

YWCA USA Statements

Since last week’s wrap-up, we’ve released two press statements:

World Service Council

In October, YWCA USA senior team members Alejandra Castillo, Casey Harden, and Tycely Williams represented YWCA USA at the World Service Council annual meeting in New York City. View the internal report of the meeting.
