Dear Martha,
Please see the following YWCA USA updates:
YWCA USA Statements
Read our statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address.
The State of Our Union
YWCA USA was thrilled to be on the co-sponsorship committee for The State of Our Union, an event on January 30th dedicated to understanding the state of our nation through the eyes and experiences of women, and to chart a path forward together. Watch a video of the event here.
On-Site DV/SA Mission Impact Group Call
Last week, our director of research and program evaluation and Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Mission Impact Group (MIG) staff lead, Alicia Sanchez Gill, spent the day with YWCA Union County at their new Family Justice Center (FJC), a co-location of services enabling survivors to receive multiple services in one office, and comes right as YWCA Union County celebrates 40 years of providing comprehensive services for survivors of domestic violence. Alicia and YWCA Union County staff co-hosted a DV/SA MIG call and shared their experiences, best practices and lessons learned across the YWCA network.
Thank you to YWCA Union County, CEO Janice Lilian, director of development Jennifer Vriens, and FJC director Adela Carceres for volunteering to host our very first on-site MIG call. If your local association would like to host the next DV/SA MIG call on March 29th or co-host with Alicia, please contact her at agill@ywca.org.
YWCA Strategic Planning Update
The YWCA USA’s Phase Two Strategic Planning process continues with an exciting and ambitious schedule as we pursue an aggressive vision and timeline for the strategic planning for the YWCA network. We were excited to receive applications from local association leaders interested in serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, which will be comprised of YWCA USA board members and staff and local association leaders.
This month the YWCA USA board will convene to consider and frame key issues that will be addressed as the work of the strategic planning committee continues, including the findings of the Phase 1. Please contact Casey Harden at charden@ywca.org with questions.
PreventConnect eLearning module
Through our partnership with the National Youth Serving Organizations for Child Protection and PreventConnect, we have created an eLearning module, Considerations in Developing Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Policies in Youth-Serving Organizations, which draws on the CDC's Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Within Youth-serving Organizations: Getting Started on Policies and Procedures, and includes tools and resources from national youth-serving organizations.
Samples of policies and tools are provided on each page throughout the module, and the resources are also housed in a Wiki page. Alicia Sanchez Gill is the co-chair of this national group and was instrumental in the stewardship of this project. For more information, please email agill@ywca.org
