Did you know…

Service is one important aspect of civic engagement, this year’s focus for Stand Agaisnt Racism. Service is the dedication of time, money and other tangible resources towards addressing community needs. You can do this both through volunteer work, careers in public service or philanthropy. Community service has made an impact on the day-to-day experiences of individuals throughout history.

Stand Against Racism is a great opportunity to serve your community.

Community service can be very practical and straightforward. You don’t need to be an activist or a nonprofit manager to help support your community. Here are some ideas for how to make service the center of your Stand Against Racism this year:

  • Hold a community day that brings both fun and resources to members of your community you may not typically serve. Some possible resources include providing free health screenings, school supplies, food, field games and tabling opportunities for other organizations.
  • Provide a platform for individual changemakers, grassroots organizations and people of color-led initiatives. You can spotlight their work, find opportunities to partner, identify ways you and your network can support their efforts and connect them with opportunities they may not otherwise have access to.
  • Support and resource a client-led service event. Help eliminate racism and empower women by creating opportunities for impacted communities to have their concerns heard.
  • Or something all your own! You know what needs to be done in your community, get out there and do it!
