Weekly Wrap-up is on a mission

March 16. 2018

Please see the following YWCA USA updates:

March for Our Lives

We are proud to support the student movement against gun violence that is taking our nation by storm. As such, YWCA USA will have a presence at the March for Our Lives on March 24 (Dr. Dorothy I. Height’s birthday!) We invite you to join us here in Washington, D.C., and encourage you to let us know if you are participating in a local event.

In case you missed it, we recently shared a policy guidance on gun violence. In addition, an op-ed by our CEO ran on ReWire this week.

Platform Women Toolkit

YWCA USA has partnered with Platform Women to create a Policy Debate Pack. The kit, based upon YWCA USA’s We Deserve Safety report, includes a glossary of important racial justice terms, an overview of current relevant legislation, a policy solutions rubric, and discussion questions to help you engage your supporters and community members around the issue of racial profiling and the criminalization of women and girls of color.

New in the Resource Library

New to the YWCA Online Resource Library Reference and Contact Center section are postings five and six in 2018’s Today’s YWCA Data Report series: YWCA Performance Metrics: Adult and Community Services and YWCA Performance Metrics: Immigrant and Refugee Services. Each report presents data recently gathered from all YWCAs, including service offerings, demographics, funding sources, referral channels, partnerships, curriculums, outcomes realized, and a directory to find which YWCAs provide each service.

United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)

We were pleased to send a delegation to New York City for UNCSW this past week, and to host our annual reception to welcome YWCA delegates from around the world. This year, we also co-hosted a panel with YWCA Canada about “Using Technology and Innovation to Bridge the Rural/Urban Digital Gap,” and, together with YWCA Brooklyn and with the support of World YWCA, hosted a YWCA Young Women Connect Dinner at YWCA Brooklyn, bringing together young women from our global movement who were attending CSW62 and giving them an opportunity to inspire, share, and connect with each other. See Alejandra together with Malayah Harper, general secretary of World YWCA in the photo below!
