Young Change-Makers In Your Community
Coca-Cola Co. USA's "Dear Future Community Challenge" calls on young adults (ages 18-24) for change-making ideas to renew local communities, and will award $30,000 grants to 17 of these change-making ideas to help winners make their visions a reality by early 2019. We know YWCAs work with some amazing young people — spread the word to your local change-makers! Submissions are due October 15, 2018.
We Still Need Your Help! Call Your Members to Vote "NO" on H.R. 6136
Yesterday, after the House voted down H.R.4760, Rep. Goodlatte's extreme anti-immigrant bill, Speaker Ryan postponed the vote on his bill (H.R. 6136) until next week. The "Border Security and Immigration Reform Act" will further harm families fleeing violence, people seeking asylum, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. It lacks a clear, sensible solution for Dreamers; maintains the Administration's harmful "zero-tolerance" policy; and increases immigration enforcement measures that further criminalize people of color. Join us in calling on Members of Congress to VOTE "NO" on Speaker Ryan's harmful bill. Take action and share this alert with your networks!
Families Belong Together, End Family Detention
For the past six weeks, we have witnessed the continued displacement of families at the border, and we have seen reports of the humanitarian crisis as over 2000 children have been forcibly separated from their parents by this Administration. The executive order signed by the President on Wednesday does not change our grave concerns around this. YWCA will be participating in a number of actions to voice our support for immigrant youth, women, and families, and to protest this Administration's continued inhumane actions. Read CEO Alejandra Y. Castillo's latest op-ed posted on our blog and on Medium about this issue, learn more about YWCA's engagement and actions in the CEO email she sent on Wednesday, and revisit the talking points we shared.
