Dear Martha,

We are pleased to provide the following updates:

YWCA Real Estate & Facilities Summit

We are excited to announce that on October 2, we will host a YWCA Real Estate and Facilities Summit, an inaugural event to address the unmet needs of YWCAs regarding their real estate and facilities, from maintenance to leasing, to financing a building to support 21st century programming and provide revenue back to the YWCA. Join us to learn from industry experts and YWCA leaders from the trenches to find out what you need to know when considering—and leveraging—your options. More information to follow in next week’s wrap-up, so stay tuned!

2018 YWCA Self-Assessment

By now, each association should have received links to the 2018 YWCA Self-Assessment survey process. If you have not received the links, contact assessment@ywca.org. The process this year has three parts: completing the online survey, uploading requested documents, and entering board member information in the database. Remember: the deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 12. You can access additional information and resources on the YWCA intranet assessment landing page. Email assessment@ywca.org with questions

Urge Your Representative to Reauthorize VAWA

On July 26, Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18) introduced the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act of 2018. This bill includes several enhancements that will provide long-term support including: investments in evidence-based prevention and programming; improved protections for access to public housing, healthcare and financial support; new resources for law enforcement on trauma-informed care, and several other positive changes. This bill is crucial to ensuring the safety and security of victims and survivors of gender-based violence. Take action today: Ask your Member of Congress to cosponsor the bill, and send letters of support from your local association.

In-District Advocacy Day

We’re one week out from In-District Advocacy Day! With 107 local associations from 34 states registered to participate, this promises to be a great day for raising YWCA’s collective voice with our representatives and senators. Review notes from the webinar and our recently updated materials to prepare to meet with your legislators. Join us Monday, August 6, from 3 – 4 p.m. ET with any questions for our In-District Advocacy Day Q&A webinar!

Nation Wide GOTV Initiative and National Voter Registration Day

Our Nationwide GOTV Initiative is off to the races and YWCAs around the county have already begun co-hosting/planning civic engagement training events as well as voter registration drives with national partners such as the Women’s March, Generation Progress and League of Women Voters. It’s not too late to join this initiative now! Take a look at our GOTV resources. We hope that you will consider holding a voter registration drive during our YWCA Nationwide GOTV Week, September 1 – 10. YWCA is also a partner for this year’s National Voter Registration Day on September 25. We encourage you to sign up to participate in this day of action as well.
