October 14 - 18

YWCA USA invites you to attend our

Our panel's discussion will focus on “Breaking Intergenerational Cycles of Domestic Violence and Trauma.” The briefing will feature local leaders from YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts, YWCA Central Alabama, YWCA New Hampshire, YWCA Silicon Valley, and YWCA Annapolis & Anne Arundel County. If you are in the area, we invite you to join us at the briefing from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Capitol Visitor Center.

Later that day we will host YWCA’s Week Without Violence Reception for the 25th Anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act and the 35th Anniversary of the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Week Without Violence New Resource:

We're excited to share an updated template for our Week Without Violence Proclamation. Consider using this proclamation as a way to engage your elected officials to commit to ending gender-based violence.

Week Without Violence Podcast Series:

Reminder that we have created five podcasts for a special series around Week Without Violence. This free tool will be available for download on Sunday, October 13th to use as content for "Listen and Learn" events. We hope associations will also share these podcasts through social media or with partners in your community. We'll add social media promotions for each podcast to our social media toolkit for all registered associations. Plus, there will be PRIZES sent to the first five associations that share our WWV podcast on socials.

#EquityCantWait

Melinda Gates is right: #EquityCantWait. Earlier this week, Melinda Gates announced an investment of $1 billion over 10 years to advance gender equity!

We are getting after the business of bringing some of that billion to the women we serve at YWCAs. #EquityCantWait and neither can we! If you have a connection to Melinda, please contact Tycely Williams, Vice-President of Development at twilliams@ywca.org.

Gender Neutral Task Force

Beginning December 2019, YWCA USA will convene a gender neutral task force and is seeking applications from local association leaders interested in serving on the task force. This group will focus on ensuring YWCA bylaws align with current legal requirements and best practices as it pertains to the YWCA’s current single gender governance and membership status as codified in the bylaws. The task force will determine what, if any, bylaw changes will be proposed to the YWCA USA Board for their review and approval to move forward for adoption by the membership at the June 2020 YWCA Annual Membership Meeting. The task force application deadline is Monday, October 21st. For more information, including the application process, please click here.

YWCA University
RJ 101: Racial Justice Foundations

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our first YWCA University course!

Registration for RJ 101: Racial Justice Foundations will open next Friday, October 11th. This course is designed to help answer three basic questions from a YWCA perspective: What is race? What is racism? and Why is racism so hard to eradicate?

We will share registration details next Friday. However, you must be a member of the YWCA USA Intranet to register for the course. If you have not yet joined our Intranet, your first YWCA University assignment is to click and follow these instructions.

At YWCA, we are eliminating racism and empowering women. We will get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, unit institutions are transformed, until the world sees women and girls the way we do: Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.
