SUBJECT: Save the Date: YWCA Advocacy Day on August 17
Dear YWCA Leaders,
We’re excited to share more details with you about the first-ever, in-district YWCA Advocacy Day on August 17, 2016! This new event — which serves as this year’s version of Capitol Hill Day but will take place in your home states — is a great opportunity to deepen contacts with Members of Congress at a time of year when they’re typically back at home. It will also allow us to expand our advocacy footprint on the legislative priorities identified through the local association survey for the 114th Congress.
To kick things off, we’ll be holding a webinar on Wednesday, June 8, at 3pm ET, to discuss:
- How to register for YWCA Advocacy Day
- The issues we'll be focused on — namely, paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, and safe leave
- What support YWCA USA and our guest presenter, Bracewell, will provide for local associations in scheduling and preparing for the meetings with your U.S. senators, representatives, and district staff.
This focus on issues from our work and family agenda is an intentional strategy to touch on all aspects of our policy agenda over the course of the year. It also complements our focus on our racial justice and civil rights agenda during Stand Against Racism and on our health and safety agenda during the Week Without Violence.
We have a tremendous opportunity to raise our collective voice and ratchet up the pressure on Congress to support bills that are so critical to women's economic empowerment. Join us on August 17 — and don’t forget to register for the kick-off webinar on June 8!
Sincerely,
YWCA USA Public Policy & Advocacy
