SUBJECT: Resources about New Overtime Rules

Dear YWCA Leaders,

This week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced revisions to the Fair Labor Standards Act that are scheduled to go into effect December 1, 2016. For most organizations, the new regulations will raise the standard minimum level for salaried, exempt workers from $455 per week ($23,660 per year) to $913 per week ($47,476 per year). They will also increase the compensation level for highly compensated employees (subject to less-detailed duties tests) from its previous amount of $100,000 to $134,004 annually.

To help local associations plan for these changes, we're providing two resources:

  • This article by the National Council of Nonprofits describes the exemptions to these rules for nonprofit organizations.
  • Morgan Lewis, a national law firm, has invited YWCAs to join a webinar they're conducting on the revised regulations on Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m. ET. Please note that this webinar will discuss the revised regulations more generally and is not specifically focused on nonprofits. To register for the webinar, click here; there is no cost to local associations to participate.

We hope you find these resources informative and educational! If you have any questions, please reach out to your director of member services or contact memberservices@ywca.org.

Sincerely,

YWCA USA Member Services
