Happy International Women's Day

Dear Martha,

Happy International Women’s Day – or as we call it here at YWCA USA – Thursday! And why? Because each and every day we are standing strong here in the United States with 213 local YWCAs in 46 states and the District of Columbia. We are proud to work in solidarity with World YWCA and our sister YWCAs in 20,000 local communities around the globe. I invite you to read more about our global connection in this blog written by our CEO.

Will you support our daily work to empower women with a donation?

Here in the United States, we work on the ground in community programs and we see firsthand the impact that the policies created here in Washington, D.C. have on the rest of the country. As a provider of safe, affordable housing for 160 years, we know from experience the impact of housing discrimination and economic inequity. We understand the challenges and tension families face when their immigration status hangs in limbo. More, we know the impact these policies have on survivors of domestic violence when they reach out for help.

Help support us as we continue to fight for policies that support women and girls.

YWCA has been practicing intersectionality since before our brilliant friend Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw coined the word! We knew early on that we could not empower women unless we also worked to eliminate racism. We cannot have gender equity without racial justice. As a result, anti-racism is intentionally infused into every part of our work. Our movement is wise and seasoned as we take on racism in today’s United States.

Don’t let the news cycle get you down, invest in YWCA and invest in our nation’s future.

Sincerely,

Tycely Williams SignatureTycely Williams
