Weekly Wrap-up is on a missionNovember 16, 2018

We are pleased to provide the following updates:

Giving Tuesday

Tuesday, November 27 is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving. YWCA USA will join millions around the globe in promoting the importance and impact of charitable giving—and we hope you will too! As you gear up to introduce new donors, attract lapsed donors and reintroduce our meaningful impact to existing donors, here are some helpful resources: the official Giving Tuesday toolkit and Mobile Cause toolkit, and helpful YWCA-specific sample tweets and graphics. We look forward to amplifying your messages and introducing our collective work and impact to a larger and broader community. Should you have any specific questions or need further guidance, please don’t hesitate to contact Tycely Williams at twilliams@ywca.org.

Share Your GOTV Success

Thank you to the over 120 YWCAs in 37 states and D.C who mobilized their communities to get to the polls last week! YWCAs engaged in so many great GOTV efforts, from voter registration events, candidate forums, and voter protection work, to phone-banking and providing election day support. Together, we collectively empowered thousands of women, people of color and other marginalized communities to use their voice and their vote to influence change in this country.

But our work is not done yet: We want learn more about just how each of you supported your communities this election season. Please take a moment to give us feedback, so that we can continue to celebrate your success and measure our collective power!

Advocacy Actions of the Week

ACA Open Enrollment for 2019 is Here — Let’s Get Our Communities Enrolled! The 2019 annual Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period ends December 15, 2018. Community members can visit healthcare.gov to sign up for an individual marketplace plan and Get Covered America to find a local, in-person assister to answer questions and help them enroll.

Week Without Violence Feedback Survey

Friendly reminder that this Monday, November 19 at 11:59 p.m. is the last day to fill out our Week Without Violence feedback survey. Your input is important to us, and will help shape future Week Without Violence campaigns! We ask that you make your responses as detailed as possible. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact Saryn Francis at sfrancis@ywca.org.

Opportunity for YWCAs to feature amazing kids in your community

It’s not too late! Do you know an amazing kid between the ages of 8-12 who is making significant impact (big or small) in their community? Help spread the word about how amazing they are! A large television network is looking for rock star kids to feature on a new TV series about inspiring kids across America, and they’re asking YWCA to help! Learn more about this opportunity in this one-pager. If you know any such kids in your community, please fill this brief survey. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Governance Fundamentals Webinar for Board Members

Strong board governance and staff leadership, along with a healthy board-CEO partnership, are vital to the success of a YWCA. YWCA board members are the fiduciaries steering an organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, while ensuring their YWCA has adequate resources to advance its mission and fund operations. Join us on December 18 at 2:00 p.m. ET for an introductory session on Governance Fundamentals for all YWCA board members to learn more about your role and responsibilities. Register now.

Congratulations, YWCA Lake County

The Chicago Bears awarded five organizations a total of $813,850 to support local social justice initiatives. YWCA Lake County is one of the awardee organizations and will use this support towards their Racial Justice Initiative.

Save the Date: Stand Against Racism 2019

Mark your calendars for April 25-28, 2019, the official dates of our next Stand Against Racism campaign, YWCA’s signature campaign to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. We will announce our official theme for 2019 in the upcoming weeks! In the meantime, we encourage you to start brainstorming and thinking of ideas for events or “stands” around those official dates. We are looking forward to making this year’s campaign bigger and better than ever, and we’re excited to see our collective impact!
