Weekly Wrap-up is on a missionOctober 19, 2018

We are pleased to provide the following updates:

Week Without Violence 2018

As we close out Week Without Violence, we want thank you all for your participation and engagement this year! It’s been wonderful to see the impact and reach of our YWCA network when we all engage in a campaign! Here are a few highlights from the week:

  • On Monday, October 15, and throughout the week, we were so excited to see pictures of folks with our fillable Week Without Volence campaign signs! We’ve shared some of them in this album and on our Instagram page, and we’ll keep sharing and retweeting them as you post them!
  • On Tuesday, October 16, we hosted a dynamic conversation and reached over 14,000 people on Facebook Live, which focused on ending gender-based violence in our lifetimes, intersectionality, transformation, and more. Please continue to share the video with your networks and communities.
  • On Wednesday, October 17, we had a great Twitter Chat discussion with many of our national partners and some local associations about intersectional approaches to ending gender-based violence. Please check out and share these insights documented in our Twitter Moments.
  • On Thursday, October 18, YWCA USA, joined by the Bipartisan Working Group to End Domestic Violence, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), U.S. Senator Bob Casey (Penn.), and U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08), hosted a Congressional briefing on ending domestic and sexual violence. Thank you to YWCA Greater Harrisburg, YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, and YWCA Union County for sharing their expertise as service providers. We’ll share the full briefing video next week!
  • For the first time, we expanded Week Without Violence to include national partners—and we’re excited to share that we had over 20 national organizations join us for this year’s campaign, including the Women’s March, Feminist Majority, Everytown, and many of our fellow members from the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

We want to hear your insights and get your feedback from this year’s campaign, so we’ll be sharing a survey in next week’s Weekly Wrap-Up—stay tuned! And again, thank you so much for your support and participation in this campaign, and for taking the time to help amplify these important conversations about gender-based violence. Moreover, we thank you for your tireless work year-round to support women and survivors, change culture, and prevent violence.

Advocacy Actions of the Week

  • #YWomenVote — join us online on Monday and Friday to highlight What Women Want using this week’s social media toolkit. Spotlight for this week: Economic Concerns and Caregiving. Watch our webinar to learn more!
  • Complete the Public Policy Priorities Survey by November 2. Email Caitlin Lowry at advocacy@ywca.org with any questions.

Resources from the YWCA Real Estate and Facilities Summit

We are pleased to share the resources from the YWCA Real Estate & Facilities Summit held earlier this month. Please find on this YWCA Intranet resource page video recordings of each presentation, along with any PowerPoints and/or handouts used by our speakers.

#GirlsToo Campaign

Join us in creating change for girls throughout the country by taking the #GirlsToo Pledge. On the anniversary of #MeToo going viral, Girls Inc. announced the launch of a new campaign called #GirlsToo. This national campaign will focus on sexual harassment and assault in the lives of youth, particularly girls, with actions aimed at changing the norms and stereotypes that fuel these behaviors. Take the #GirlsToo Pledge and you’ll get a list of actions you and your local association can take to start creating change. Then share the pledge with everyone at your local association and beyond!

Opioid Crisis Relief Act with Trauma Provisions Signed into Law

This week the President signed the Opioid Crisis Relief Act — with six trauma-informed care provisions — into law. These trauma-informed care provisions include a new grant program for trauma-informed care in schools as well as the creation of a federal task force to disseminate best practices and coordinate a federal approach to trauma. We know trauma-informed care practices and provisions are important to the people and communities we serve and that is why YWCA USA will continue to advocate for broader trauma-informed care coverage and the faithful implementation of the provisions passed in the opioid law.

YWCA USA Digital Engagement Solution

Another group is forming for the YWCA USA/Blackbuad digital engagement solution, which gives your association access to a new website template, e-marketing tools, online giving and peer to peer fundraising. Learn more about the solution here. Associations who sign up will go through a multi-week training “cohort group” to learn how to use these new tools. YWCA USA is currently offering a $1000 subsidy for this training (total cost: $1300) for associations in good standings – however this is the last group we are able to offer this savings for. Currently this group is set to begin on November 8th, 2018. Associations who decide to join at a later date will need to pay the full cost of the training. Spaces are filling up for this group, so if your association is interested in this great value, please contact Matt Preiss at mpreiss@ywca.org.
