YWCA University RJ 101: Racial Justice Foundations
Don't forget to register for RJ 101: Racial Justice Foundations by November 21, 2019.
RJ 101 includes a 90-minute presentation, and is a self-paced course that must be completed by January 18, 2020.
This course is designed to help answer three basic questions from a YWCA perspective: "What is race?" "What is racism?" and "Why is racism so hard to eradicate?" |

Organize Your Butterflies Podcast: A Conversation About Racial Justice Training
Racial justice education on a macro-level requires grappling with questions such as “what is racism” and “why is racism so difficult to eradicate?” In this candid and reflective conversation, Organize Your Butterflies host, Alejandra Y. Castillo, and Donte Hilliard, Director of Mission Impact at YWCA USA and President of the newly launched YWCA University, discuss Hilliard’s calling to the nonprofit sector, YWCA’s work to eliminate racism - and focus on intersectionality long before it was trendy - as well as how YWCA invests in people who do the work required to bring justice and equality to all women, girls, and people of color.

SAVE THE DATES: Stand Against Racism 2020
On Monday, January 20, 2020, online registration will open for our annual Stand Against Racism campaign, which will be held April 23-26, 2020.
Once registered, Associations will gain access to the digital toolkit and receive details concerning programming and merchandise for Stand Against Racism.
As we gear up for both Stand Against Racism and the 2020 Census, we can’t stress enough the importance of civic engagement in racial justice work. Voting rights, Census participation, and civic engagement are, and have always been, core components of racial justice. As civil rights continue to be eroded for communities of color, it is more important than ever to support full access and engagement for marginalized communities, especially women and girls of color, in the political process. |

YWCA Brand Story Toolkit
During last week's YWConnect, we unveiled our new brand story toolkit, designed with the help of GMMB.
The YWCA brand story (this link is to the full toolkit) tells how we want others outside the organization to feel about YWCA and how they should feel about themselves when engaging with us. Our brand story will help you:
- Develop copy for creative collateral, where lines of the brand story can serve as captions, headlines, body copy, etc. that communicate the essence of YWCA
- Create the following:
- Elevator speeches - PDF/PPT
- Donor appeals - PDF/PPT
- Communications with partner organizations - PDF/PPT
- Communications with policymakers - PDF/PPT
- Social media posts - PDF/PPT
To access the brand story toolkit in the resource center, click here.
If you have questions about how to use these tools, please contact YWCA USA Communications. |

YWCA Historical Records
Thanks to a grant from the Council on Library Information and Resources, YWCA’s historical digital records are available for the public to access through Smith College Special Collections. The collection includes one-of-a-kind historical materials that document YWCA work around the world before, during and after both world wars, as well as young women’s education and health across the 20th century.
We shared a photo from the collection yesterday on social media and will be sharing more of them as Throwback Thursday posts. We hope you too will share these photos, showcasing the great work of YWCA across the years.
To explore the materials, visit bit.ly/YWCAfindingaid, or visit the Five College Digital Repository at bit.ly/YWCArecords. |

DACA Heard at the Supreme Court
On Tuesday, November 12, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Department of Homeland Security, et al. v. Regents of the University of California, et al. — the legal case on the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.
YWCA USA staff stood in solidarity at the Supreme Court with DACA recipients, immigrant families, and coalition partners working on this critical issue. DACA recipients are vital members of our community and make countless contributions to our nation. The decision in this case - anticipated in the Spring of 2020 - will determine the fate of thousands across the country.
At YWCA, we demand a world of equity and human decency. |

IT Update: Windows 7
The IT department at YWCA USA would like to remind all associations that support for the Windows 7 operating system ends on January 14, 2020. After that, computers that continue to run Windows 7 will constitute a security risk, as Microsoft will no longer push any security updates for Windows 7. If you are unsure what operating system your computer is running, please type the word “System Information” into your Windows Search. You will see a system summary that includes the OS name. (See the screenshot below.) If you have any questions, please email webmaster@ywca.org.

VAWA: The Senate Heard You Loud and Clear
Your efforts last week on the National Day of Action on VAWA helped us to reach over 30 states - that’s 60 Senate offices - and it made a difference! On Wednesday, November 13, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, introduced the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (S. 2843). This bill makes necessary enhancements to ensure that survivors are afforded consistent, high-quality wraparound services in order to recover, feel safe, and thrive.
Our voices rise together to do the work. We are stronger together. YWCA will continue to support life-saving legislation like the Violence Against Women Act.
Please continue to take action and remind your Senators to pass VAWA. |
